HELPFUL HINTS INVOLVING MIRROR MITCHELLS
Duplicate the boards before the East West pairs
exchange sections.
After the pairs cross sections, they can check
the duplication before
passing the boards. This should avoid any
fouled boards.
With the exception of eighteen and twenty six
tables, the game is
started with the same board movement you would
use for a pair game,
i.e, in both sections, boards down one with an
even number of tables
and down two with an odd number of tables.
With two nine (18) or thirteen (26) table
sections move both sections
counting the duplication round as Round 1,
i.e., in the regular
Mitchell boards move down one, players up one;
and in the Mirror
boards move down two, players down one.
If floor duplication is used, 9 or 13 rounds
can be played.
Anytime there is a skip in the Mitchell
section, there is also a skip
in the Mirror Mitchell. When the skip is
called, the pairs in the
Mitchell section move up two and the boards
down one. In the Mirror
Mitchell section, the pairs move down two and
the boards down three.
MIRROR MITCHELL FOR EIGHTEEN TABLES USING HAND

Arrange two nine table sections, one designated
the Mitchell section
and the other designated the Mirror Mitchell
section. Before play
begins, the East West players exchange sections
going to the

BOARD-A-MATCH MOVEMENTS

The several types of team of four movements are
described below:
A. STANDARD
N/S pairs remain stationary and move the boards
to the next lower
table, E/W pairs skip a table toward the lower
numbers. To start the
game have the E/W pairs make their first move
and distribute the
boards starting with the second set on table #1
and ending with the
first set on the highest numbered table. (A
set of boards means all
the boards played at a given table during one
round. Thus, a set may
consist of 2, 3, 4 or more boards.)
B. MIRROR MITCHELL
For this movement one needs two sections of
equal size. To start the
game have the E/W pairs go into the other
section and sit down at the
table which has the same number as their pair
number. Either one of
the sections plays a straight Mitchell movement
(N/S stationary, E/W
next higher, boards next lower). In the other
section E/W pairs move
to the next lower table and N/S pairs remain
stationary and move the
boards two tables toward the lower numbers. If
there is a skip in the
Mitchell, then, at the time of the skip, the
E/W pairs in the Mirror
must skip a table lower and the boards must
skip two tables lower. Of
course, the boards must be duplicated between
the two sections. The
first set of boards starts on table #1 in each
section.
C. NEW ENGLAND RELAY
This movement is very good for small team games
with an even number of
tables. Starting with 2X teams, line the
tables up in two parallel
rows with table #1 opposite table X+1, table
two opposite table X+2,
etc., ending with table X opposite table 2X.
The tables opposite each
other relay constantly throughout the game.
E/W pairs move to the
next lower numbered table. There are 2X sets
of boards in play which
are distributed with set two on table one, set
three at a bye-stand
between tables one and two, set four on table
two, set five on a
bye-stand between tables two and three, etc.,
ending with set 2X on
table X and the first set on a bye-stand behind
table X. For example,
with six teams the set up is:
1 2 3 Tables 1 and 4 relay, as do 2 and 5,
3 and 6. E/W pairs make their first
4 5 6 move and boards are distributed as
follows:
Set 2 goes to the 1 - 4 relay
Set 3 goes to the bye-stand between 1 and 2
Set 4 goes to the 2 - 5 relay
Set 5 goes to the bye-stand between 2 and 3
Set 6 goes to the 3 - 6 relay
Set 1 goes to the bye-stand behind table 3
The boards move from a relay to the next lower
bye-stand and from a
bye-stand to the next lower relay.

"RTM" = (Regular team movement): boards move
lower, E/W skips lower
2-10-2: RTM except that after two rounds, E/W
skips two tables lower.
After twelve rounds, E/W skips two tables lower
and the boards skip
one table lower.
MM (Mirror Mitchell): Used when there are two
sections of the same
size. To start, E/W pairs switch sections at
the same table number.
First section (Mitchell) plays a straight
Mitchell movement. Second
section (Mirror) moves boards down two tables
and E/W pairs move to
next lower table after each round. If there is
a skip in the
Mitchell, then, at the time of the skip, the
E/W pairs in the Mirror
must skip a table lower and the boards must
skip two tables lower.
RELAY: For the last round, send the E/W pairs
to the N/S pair that
they skipped and relay a set of boards between
the two tables as if it
were a Swiss team.
