McCabe
Adjunct - After Opener's preemptive weak 2 bid, McCabe provides a
mechanism to differentiate signoff 3 level bids in a new suit, and various
invitational game asking bids. Responder's calls are conventional and
alertable:
2D/H/S -
2N;
Method 1 -
legacy:
1. |
2N is conventional,
forcing opener to rebid 3C. Opener may then pass or
correct to signoff in a new suit (similar to Lebensohl). This
scenario is commonly used over Right Hand Opponent overcall (suit bid or
double) 2H - (2S) - 2N -
(P);
3C - (P) - 3D - All Pass
|
2. |
2N is conventional,
forcing opener to rebid 3C. If responder makes a 3 level bid in
opener's major, the bid is invitational to game:
2H - (2S) - 2N - (P);
3C - (P) - 3H
|
3.
|
Responder's new suit is
forcing. Opener's rebids are:
2H - (P) - 2S - (P);
|
a. Raise Responder's suit
when holding 3 cards in the suit
2H - (P) - 2S - (P);
3S
|
b. Bid 3N with
useful outside honors as a King and Queen in two side suits
2H - (P) - 2S - (P);
3N
|
c. Bid a side suit with a
control in that suit 2H -
(P) - 2S - (P);
3D
|
d. Rebid Opener's minor
lacking any of the above
2H - (P) - 2S - (P);
3H
|
Method 2:
1. |
A redouble forces opener to
bid the cheapest suit available, used as a runout to opener's
single-suited hand; responder may pass or correct.
2H - (X) - XX - (P);
2S - All Pass |
2. |
2N is a game try,
opener's replies are Ogust
2H - (X) - 2N |
3. |
Responder's new suit is
lead-directing only, typically a non-forcing raise of opener's suit.
See Ogust alternative
treatment. 2H - (X) - 2S
- (P); |
Method 3:
1. |
Responder's redouble is
natural (to punish the Doubling opponent), with new suits "to play" at the 2 level. |
2. |
2N forces opener to
bid 3C. Responder may pass or correct. |
3. |
Responder's new suit is
lead-directing only, typically a non-forcing raise of opener's suit. |
