| Ruffing Finesse
- A combination of a finesse and a ruff.  Typically the lead of a singleton
to partner's A Q J [...x], first finessing opponent's King followed by a
discard on partner's Ace.   In this
discussion, refer to the dummy's Club suit.  If the opponents'
King is offside (behind the Ace-Queen in East's hand), the declarer has another
option to win extra tricks.  The declarer may first cash  dummy's
CA, next playing
CQ.  Assuming East is
marked with the King (based on bidding, leads, etc), declarer may now discard a
side suit loser on the trick unless East covers.  If so, South ruffs the
trick and returns to partner's hand in another suit, allowing further discard
opportunity on dummy's remaining CJ.   |
