Scissors Coup - An attempt to eliminate (cut) opponents'
transportation by playing a loser on a loser, intending to prevent a ruff.

            | | (3D) | 3H | (P) | 4H |   West begins winning a
        CK, shifting with a likely
        singleton Spade to dummy's
        SA.
Sensing a Spade ruff from West and an offside HK, Declarer Hentri
        Swarc representing France leads
        Dummy's CQ and discards the
D10 (loser on loser), won by West. In
fact, West was Italy's Blue Team anchor Belladonna, who indeed held a
stiff Spade and HK-10-4.  East was Averelli, holding the DA.
If East could get in the lead before South discarded the
        D10 loser, West
will ruff a Spade and win the HK to set South.  So Henri Swarc
beautifully executed the Scissor Coup to make the game. |
